5 minute rule

I was listening to a podcast by the inspiring Hal Elrod here is one of his suggestions:
If you are feeling unhappy, depressed, frustrated, angry allow yourself 5 minutes to have a good whinge, cry, wail, feel really sorry for yourself then once the 5 minutes is up (set a timer) stop and start thinking of ways to make the present moment O.K. or better still be constructive and do something to improve the situation or at least take your mind off the situation. If someone has made you angry really hate them for 5 minutes then stop and move on.
